I think that the book (The best of times?) and the film (Thirteen) have their good and bad things. Both are very different but they have similar things. I will talk about the bad things, the drugs.
About the film: Tracy is a teenager, she is thirteen and she is a good student until Evie appears in her life. Evie is a teenager and she is thirteen too, but she has problems with her life in general: studies, friendships,... She smokes, she drinks, she consumes drugs, etc. Evie motivates to Tracy to smoke, to drink, to consume drugs,... and finally both doing the same bad things and harmful to themselves.
They will going to more until they knowing that they doing bad things and their life haven't sense in this manner.
About the book: Chee Seng is a teenager, he is sixteen and he lives with her mother in Malaysia.
On the final of the book, in a big party, a friend gives him pills to get excited for to dance with his girlfriend. His girlfriend also consumes a lot of pills and finally she has an accident in the pool of the home due to the pills.
The Che Seng's mother knows all that his son has done, and she wants to kill herself with pills. She doesn't die but she is in the hospital.
In the book and in the film, the drugs have the same final. They show us that the drugs are very bad and very unhealthy for all the people, teenagers and adults.
